Criminal Record Checking Print E-mail

We use various methods to vet our staff. Included in this is an enhanced criminal record check. The 'disclosure' certificate which is given to us outlines any unspent convictions the potential employee has as well as any other information that the Chief Police Officer of their local force feels might be relevant (such as allegations which did not result in prosecution).

The search also checks that the potential employee is not listed on any of the government lists of people barred from working with children.

The search does not state whether someone is suitable for working in an environment with children, it simply gives us some information to help us make that decision.

As a registered body we have to abide by the 'Code of Practice – For registered persons and other recipients of Disclosure Information '. In using the information we also directly bound by the following legislation;

These place strong restrictions on what we can do with the information we receive. This sometimes conflicts with the requests of our clients.

To clarify -

  • CRB certificates are extremely confidential and must be destroyed as soon as they are no longer necessary (within 6 months). Therefore we generally don't hold the CRB certificates for our employees (although we do record the certificate number and date of issue)

  • Even if we do hold them, we cannot share certificates or the information gained from them with anyone outside of the company.

  • Other than their names, we cannot share personal details of our employees with anyone.

  • We can only share the certificate number and issue date of any certificates.

  • We cannot share documents such as passports or other personal documents with anyone outside the company.

Therefore if a client wishes to check the credentials of our employees beyond the certificate number and issue date then we are limited in what we can do. We suggest that you lodge a request direct with us so we know you want the information.

We will then arrange a date with our employees where they can bring photo ID in to show. Please note however that our employees are not obliged to share this information if they choose not to.
